What started in 1884 as an enclosed bookcase in a schoolhouse has transformed over the years into an essential part of our community.
1915
Built for $553, a new 1,300sf building became the Hudson Library’s new home. The whole town carried books from the schoolhouse to the new building on Main Street.
1956
Between the 1930’s - 1960’s library-sponsored fund raisers allowed for extensive book purchases, the Library’s membership doubled, and summer hours increased.
1985
The current library, constructed in 1985 adjacent to its previous location, owes its existence to a very large bequest from the estate of George Watson Barratt, who sought a gallery for local artists as a wing of a brand new library. *Photo from 2015
